President's Spotlight video transcript (July 2025)

Hello! I am Dr. Natalia Rost, your president of the AAN, at our headquarters in Minneapolis.

Science is at the heart of so much of what we do at the AAN. We and thousands of members are doing all we can to advocate for steady, robust funding for neuroscience. As former chair of the AAN Science Committee, let me assure you—science and research are at the top of our strategic agenda.

Let me share with you some AAN Science highlights.

First, the AAN partners with many stakeholders to widen our impact for you, your patients, and the public at large. We’re working with the Society for Neuroscience on an upcoming joint project, collaborate with dozens of other organizations large and small, and have long-time partnerships with the National Institute on Aging and the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke. That includes quarterly leadership meetings focused on funding, workforce development, and brain health; shared goals; and joint initiatives.

Next, we are a key supporter of neurology research. Applications for our 2026 research program opened last month and close in September. These grants support early career researchers, seasoned neuroscience professionals, and every stage in between. In addition to direct support from the AAN, a big thanks to our research partner the American Brain Foundation for helping raise money for our research grants. I encourage you to apply or tell your mentee or a colleague.

Finally, we are the home of the best and latest science. Our publications—the Neurology family of journals, Continuum, neuroscience-focused podcasts, and more—are the go-to resource for a reason. We also offer countless opportunities to learn online and at our world-class conferences. 2026 Annual Meeting abstract submissions will open at the end of August. We can’t wait to host thousands of abstracts in Chicago and online next April.

Thank you—let’s keep scientific discoveries coming, and on behalf of science, let’s get to work!
