President's Spotlight video transcript (August 2025)
Hello! I am Dr. Natalia Rost, your president of the AAN.
In June, I had the privilege of leading—as President—my first meeting of the AAN Board of Directors—a set of dedicated volunteers who work very hard to lead our Academy toward brain health for all. Fueled by expertise, robust discussion, and forward thinking, we carried out a mid-year assessment of our five-year strategic plan, which runs through 2028.
We are committed to our mission—to enhance your career fulfillment and promote brain health for all. Our strategic plan guides us in reaching four mission-driven goals.
To grow a diverse neurology workforce.
To strengthen neurologic practice.
To promote neuroscience research.
And to improve neurologic health.
Yet given the headwinds facing our field, our research, and so many of our patients, I want you to know that we are staying nimble. We reviewed the nearly 20 SMART objectives within the strategic plan to make sure we’re on track, responsive, and adapting our approach to achieving these objectives as needed to best support you in your crucial daily work.
Even with the hurdles, what I saw in this AAN Board of Directors meeting is that we are motivated and rising to the challenge. Myself, the board, and our countless member volunteers are working toward more than just the four strategic goals—we’re genuinely committed to making a difference. We are confident that—working together—we will achieve a future of brain health for all.
I want to especially thank AAN Vice President Dr. Charles Flippen, whose work as the new chair of our Strategic Planning Committee will be essential in our continued progress.
