Applications open for UCNS certification in Neuro-oncology, Neurocritical Care

The  (UCNS) is an independent nonprofit established by the AAN and four other leading neurology organizations. As the accrediting and certifying body for emerging neurological subspecialties, the UCNS provides a means of formal recognition and improved training standards for subspecialties. 

The UCNS is accepting applications for the 2025 Neuro-oncology and Neurocritical Care certification examinations through May 1. Both exams take place in November and are scheduled to take four hours and include 200 multiple-choice questions. An extended application deadline of May 15 is also available with a $500 extended deadline fee.

Neuro-oncology certification

Examinations take place November 3–7.  

Neurocritical Care certification

Examinations take place November 17–21.

Other recent UCNS updates

Demonstrating their expert knowledge in their respective subspecialties, a total of 72 new physicians passed their respective subspecialty’s UCNS certification examination and now hold the distinction of being UCNS diplomates.

Behavioral Neurology & Neuropsychiatry
There are now 508 physician diplomates certified in Behavioral Neurology & Neuropsychiatry.

Autonomic Disorders
There are now 75 physician diplomates certified in Autonomic Disorders.

Physicians in the United States and Canada who meet the eligibility requirements may apply for certification in Behavioral Neurology & Neuropsychiatry and Autonomic Disorders. The next certification examinations for these subspecialties will take place in 2026.
