AAN Leadership Development programs provide an environment that inspires and transforms neurologists into the change leaders of tomorrow. The AAN is investing in future leaders through these all-expenses-paid programs. We see potential and want to provide the tools to harness that potential and take it to the next level in your career and community. No other program in the country matches this caliber of leadership development that incorporates training, personalized coaching, and mentoring, tailored specifically for each leadership cohort.
Invest in yourself and in your professional development
Enhance your leadership and problem-solving skills, and career satisfaction
Collaborate with peers
Access 1:1 coaching tailored to you
Become part of a strong network of supportive neurology colleagues
Viewing leadership as a learned skill that we practice and refine (as opposed to an intrinsic talent) makes leadership feel remarkably accessible to everyone. We are all leaders in our daily lives in some form. It might be within our families or friendship circles, within our divisions, within our departments, or at a larger regional or national level.

How many participants are in each program cohort?
Up to 10 total participants are selected for each program.
How are participants selected?
Each program has a dedicated review work group that reviews all applications. Candidates are graded based on their leadership potential, self-awareness and understanding of leadership, and alignment with the specific program and leadership developmental needs.
What’s the time commitment? Overall, by month?
Time commitment varies by program, but these programs require your full energy and attention, and at certain times could include up to 10+ hours a month. Programs with group projects are the most time-intensive. Participants are required to attend all leadership meetings, coaching calls, and small group calls.
What travel is involved?
Participants will typically travel for the kickoff meeting and graduation of the program for a total of two in-person meetings. Some programs will travel an additional time for a total of three in-person meetings.
What opportunities are there for leadership participants at the Annual Meeting?
Participants will spend time in leadership development programming with their cohort, along with attending a day-long program specifically tailored for current cohorts to learn more about the AAN. There is also a social reception event to network and meet other members of leadership programs.
How do I recommend or refer a colleague to a leadership development program?
Please contact the AAN staff member to recommend or refer a colleague. The staff member will then provide more information about the program.
