(UCNS) is an independent nonprofit established by the AAN and four other leading neurology organizations. As the accrediting and certifying body for emerging neurological subspecialties, the UCNS provides a means of formal recognition and improved training standards for subspecialties.

The UCNS is engaging each of its neurological subspecialties in the process of identifying the most important developments in their subspecialty field for the 2026 . Diplomates and subspecialty sponsoring organizations are invited to that meet the submission criteria.
All submissions will be reviewed. Final article selections will be determined by the subspecialty’s , a committee of subject matter experts who are nominated by the subspecialty’s sponsoring organization(s).
Exam committee members aim to create lists that cover a range of clinical topics that will benefit and apply to the majority of practitioners in their respective subspecialty—targeting real-world knowledge gaps—while also ensuring that any substantial guideline updates are included.
Submissions must meet the following criteria to be considered:
- Reflects recent advances within the past four years or current clinical knowledge in the subspecialty field
- Clinically relevant articles
- Drawn from peer-reviewed journals relevant to the subspecialty and/or the related primary specialty field
- New or updated practice guidelines published in print or electronic form
- Available to and easily accessible by UCNS diplomates
Submissions must include:
- Title/volume/issue/date of journal article or resource
- Article author(s)
- Hyperlink to the online article or resource
