Title Detecting Dopaminergic Deficits in Individuals at Risk for Parkinsonism

Objective

Background Individuals with iRBD and GBA are at higher risk for developing PD. Thus an improved understanding about clinical features or imaging surrogates that improve that ability to predict the change of state would be a useful advance in the field.

Design/Methods DaTSCAN and 3T MRI imaging studies were performed in a cohort of control, GBA, PD, and iRBD subjects who were evaluated clinically by using subdomains of the Cogstate, the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA), Brief Smell Identification test (B-SIT), the Unified Parkinson Disease Rating Scale (UPDRS), Hoehn & Yahr (H&Y), RBDQ-HK, and Epworth sleepiness scale. RBD subjects were also evaluated by the Minnesota Parasomnia injury scale.

Results We have demonstrated evidence of dopaminergic denervation in a subset of our iRBD subjects.

Conclusions A multi-modality approach appears to provide evidence of premotor features of PD in a subset of individuals at risk for developing PD.
