Sections: Your subspeciality, your focus

Your AAN membership includes access to 40+ sections, which are vibrant networks of neurology professionals and represent a broad range of neurological subspecialties and interests. You may join one or several of these member-led groups, each with a dedicated Synapse member community.

What are AAN sections?

AAN sections are formal, governance-based groups within AAN, typically organized around subspecialties or professional interests. Each section has elected leadership (chair and vice chair) and often collaborates in AAN governance, education, and advocacy efforts.

You may join one or several of these member-led groups, each with a dedicated Synapse community. There are over 40 sections to choose from, covering a wide variety of neurological subspecialties and interests.

What other member communities can I join?

In addition to AAN sections, Synapse also supports the following community types:

  • Consortiums are generally organized around a specific member type or career stage.
  • Open communities are Synapse member groups without a formal governance structure. These special interest groups enable members to join online discussions and share resources with peers.
