To deliver continuing education (CE) regarding advances in neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder (NMOSD) to improve knowledge and skills while also identifying persisting educational needs among neurologists, neuro-ophthalmologists, and comprehensive ophthalmologists.

Basic science and clinical advances have led to improvements in the diagnosis and management of patients with NMOSD, yet HCPs who care for these patients remain largely unaware of these advances and how they can improve patient outcomes.  Targeted CE can address knowledge and practice gaps as well as garner insights into topics that continue to challenge the subsets of specialists involved in patient care.
In 2020-2021, Vindico Medical 好色先生 provided 9 CE programs designed to educate neurologists, neuro-ophthalmologists, and ophthalmologists on advances in the understanding, diagnosis, and treatment of NMOSD. Pre-, intra-, and post-activity assessments were used to collect information regarding baseline knowledge and practice patterns across these audiences as well as the impact of the education on knowledge and skills. Assessments were scored in aggregate and at the individual level to compare between specialty audiences.
As of September 2021, 6,066 HCPs had participated in the education, with full datasets available for 3,600 activity completers. Overall, there was a 123% relative increase in knowledge and completers are 76% more likely to apply newer treatments to practice, potentially benefiting over 5,000 patients with NMOSD monthly. Across specialties, baseline knowledge was lowest regarding risk factors and the burden of NMOSD. Of the three specialties, neuro-ophthalmologists were the most knowledgeable across all learning topics (risk/burden, disease pathophysiology, diagnosis, and treatment). Relative to ophthalmologists, neurologists were more knowledgeable regarding treatment, but not diagnosis.
Targeted CE improved knowledge and skills related to the management of NMOSD. It also elucidated persisting educational needs among specific specialty audiences that can be used to tailor future educational efforts.
