Colleen Bevevino Tomcik, MD, FAAN
General Neurology
The COVID-19 pandemic ushered in a new era of Neurology residency recruitment. The move to virtual interviews, while initially done for safety, has proven advantageous for a variety of other reasons and is likely here to stay. However, it creates challenges for both programs and applicants. At this session, attendees should review the AAN’s current Residency and Fellowship Recruitment Statement; discover ways to effectively research and select programs to apply; review strategies for using ERAS to emphasize strengths and handle perceived weaknesses in their application; review tips on how to write an effective personal statement; learn how to identify and approach writers for letters of recommendation; discuss best use of newer application features, such as meaningful experiences, geographic preferences, and program signaling; and review rules and etiquette for virtual interviews, program/applicant communications, and in-person second looks.
