Pain
Course participants will be able to apply initial medical assessment tools for serious causes of spine pain using 鈥渞ed flags鈥 from the history and exam. Participants will learn to interpret spine neuroimaging findings seen in patients with common spine disorders. Participants will know the indications, contraindications, and outcomes of spine surgery for common spine disorders. Participants will be able to identify a spine emergency arising from a common spine disorder. Participants will understand the issues regarding the overutilization of spine imaging, narcotics, and surgery from a public health perspective. This perspective will become important as we strive to reconcile care for individual patients with care for populations of patients with similar conditions.
