Learning Objectives Participants should be able to: apply initial medical assessment tools and templates for potential serious causes of spine pain using “red flags” from the history and exam; interpret spine imaging findings in patients with common spine disorders; know the indications, contraindications, and outcomes of spine surgery for common spine disorders; identify and manage common spine emergencies; understand the public health issues regarding the overutilization of management options, including narcotics; and begin to define a specific role for the neurologist as part of a health care team managing patients with back and neck pain.
