Barcelona Researcher Receives 2014 Movement Disorders Research Award

The is awarding the 2014 Movement Disorders Research Award to Eduardo Tolosa, MD, a senior consultant with the Hospital Clinic in Barcelona, Spain. Tolosa will receive the award at the Academy鈥檚 66th in Philadelphia, April 26-May 3, 2014. The Annual Meeting is the world鈥檚 largest gathering of neurologists with more than 12,000 attendees and more than 2,500 scientific presentations on the latest research advancements in brain disease. The Movement Disorders Research Award recognizes a significant contribution to research in the understanding, treatment or prevention of movement disorders. Tolosa鈥檚 research has focused on the period of Parkinson鈥檚 disease鈥攃alled premotor Parkinson鈥檚 disease鈥攂efore the development of classic motor symptoms. 鈥淥ur findings may be important for identification of the different causes of idiopathic Parkinson鈥檚 disease, a disorder of unknown cause. Also, our studies on indicators of disease progression in the premotor phase of Parkinson鈥檚 disease are important for the design of clinical trials to test treatments that might prevent or delay the onset of motor features of Parkinson鈥檚 disease,鈥 said Tolosa.
