AAN Names New Editor-in-Chief of Neurology Now Patient Magazine
MINNEAPOLIS -
The has named a new editor-in-chief of its award-winning patient education magazine, Orly Avitzur, MD, MBA, of Tarrytown, NY, will succeed founding Editor-in-Chief Robin L. Brey, MD, of San Antonio, Texas, who is completing her 10-year term after leading the publication from an idea to a bimonthly magazine with a circulation of 500,000 and a reach of 1.6 million readers. Avitzur, who is a Fellow of the 好色先生, has been a frequent contributor to Neurology Now and a member of its editorial board. She has also served as associate editor of the AAN鈥檚 twice-monthly publication for neurology professionals, Neurology Today庐 ,editor-in-chief of the AAN鈥檚 website, editor of the American Brain Foundation eNewsletter, and as medical adviser to Consumer Reports. 鈥淚 consider myself very fortunate to be assuming the position of editor-in-chief for Neurology Now, the only consumer magazine singularly devoted to the care of neurologic conditions,鈥 said Avitzur, who, as chair of the Medical Economics and Management Committee, also serves on the AAN Board of Directors as an ex officio director. 鈥淚t has become an award-winning publication under Dr. Brey's outstanding stewardship, which has created a devout readership base over the past 10 years. I hope to continue to foster and build that foundation by increasing our social media presence and starting conversations with those readers and others with the assistance of the Neurology Now advisory board. I would also like to see the publication delve even more deeply into the area of brain health and wellness, a subject of increased interest among the boomer population.鈥 A graduate of Pennsylvania State University School of Medicine, Avitzur is a clinical instructor at Yale University School of Medicine in New Haven, Conn., and clinical assistant professor at New York Medical College in Valhalla, NY. She is a medical consultant to the New York Rangers. Neurology Now is a free bimonthly publication for patients, caregivers and anyone interested in brain health.
