Health Care Equity Subcommittee
The Health Care Equity Subcommittee works to promote knowledge and awareness of neurologic health disparities and their causes and to engage members in advancing health equity through education, clinical practice, research, and policy. The subcommittee reports to the Diversity, Equity, Inclusion Committee.

Job description
Responsibilities
- Expand the breadth and depth of health equity education in the AAN
- Raise member awareness of the current state of neurologic health disparities
- Develop and promote best practices in providing culturally competent and equitable neurological care
- Organize and promote the Annual Meeting half-day Health Equity Symposium.
- Oversee the Health Care Equity Scholarship Program and the Health Care Equity CME webinar series
- Collaborate with other committees and subcommittees to:
- Draft policy proposals and position statements related to neurologic health equity
- Advocate for policies that improve access to neurologic care
- Increase the interest in and funding of health disparities research
Member responsibilities
- Attend virtual meetings
- Participate in the subcommittee discussions, provide input on timely issues, check and respond to emails
- Attend the annual Health Equity Symposium at the AANAM
Meeting schedule
The subcommittee has hour-long virtual meetings bimonthly.
