Vitamin D Status in Migraine Patients: A Case-Control Study
Headache
P01 - (-)
079
Vitamin D deficiency is a globally prevalent health issue and probably is related to several diseases. There have been few studies on the relation between vitamin D and migraine.
73 newly diagnosed migraine patients and 98 controls, matched for age, sex, socioeconomic status, education and sun exposure, were enrolled during the spring of 2011. 25(OH) D plasma levels were measured by chemiluminescence immunoassay test.
The mean 卤 SD concentration of vitamin D was 13.57 卤 10.15 ng/ml in cases and 12.89 卤 12.94 ng/ml in controls. The prevalence of severe, moderate, mild vitamin D deficiency and normal levels were 20.5%, 31.5%, 12.3%, 35.6% and 23.5%, 32.7%, 19.4%, 24.5% in cases and controls respectively. There was no significant difference in vitamin D concentration between cases and controls. Comparison between different groups of vitamin D deficiency revealed no relation between severity of deficiency and presence of disease. Patients under the age of 30 had a 5.2 times greater odds than older patients to have more severe vitamin D deficiency, (OR = 5.2, 95% CI = 1.34, 20.73).
We did not find any association between migraine and vitamin D status; also severity of headaches was not related to vitamin D level. Younger people with vitamin D deficiency were more susceptible to migraine.
