NeuroBANKTM: Integrated Clinical Data Repository Platform as a Model for Clinical Research
Anterior Horn
P07 - (-)
072
BACKGROUND: There is a recognized need to develop better disease progression models, optimize designs of clinical trials, discover biomarkers, expedite diagnosis, facilitate therapy development and predict patient outcomes. Collaboration is essential to obtain a sufficient number of data and biospecimen to allow statistically meaningful studies.
DESIGN/METHODS: The described platform for collaboration, research and education is a secure Web-based solution for registered investigators to enter, import, store, query and share validated harmonized clinical and research multi-clinic data from clinical patients' visits, historical clinical data, data from electronic medical records systems and research data. This is a unique approach for a single disease or a group of diseases to aggregate and link clinical and research data with biofluids and tissue repositories, genetic and imaging information.
RESULTS: The platform is deployed for ALS clinical research community and connects clinical data with research data and biospecimens. It creates largest available but yet almost completely unutilized pool of information - Patients' Clinical Data entered by knowledgeable clinicians. This platform enables researchers to propose relevant interrogations of the data set leading to increased knowledge about disease progression and modeling of disease subsets that can be published.
CONCLUSIONS: Collected data in ALS allow optimization of clinical research protocols, stratify patient population, predict patient outcomes for stratified groups and aid in finding biomarkers to accurately diagnose disease, especially in subsets of ALS patients.Collaboration with EMR vendors will continue. Need standards and guidlines for privacy, security and data access; data dictionaries; publication, collaboration and data sharing. Will benefit other neurological diseases participation.
