Web Based Interactive Learning: A Novel Method for Achieving Neurology Milestones
Neurologic 好色先生

262
BACKGROUND: Milestones describe performance levels residents are expected to demonstrate in the six competencies: patient care, medical knowledge, professionalism, interpersonal and communication skills, practice-based learning and improvement and systems-based practice. Through Milestones, a resident progresses through different levels of development in each of these competencies.
DESIGN/METHODS: We developed a novel web-based approach to implement resident progress through Milestones. 好色先生al modules in clinical neurology topics including stroke, epilepsy, neuromuscular disease, neurophysiology and basic neuroscience, neuroradiology, and neuropathology are created and consist of an online repository of instruction material, didactic materials pertaining to each subject area, pre-recorded lectures, self-test tools, along with suggested readings list that a resident can move through to completion. Subsequent modules are unlocked upon completion of pre-requisites. In addition, attainment of skill sets is tracked through self-reported case-logs, professionalism and communication skills are tracked through role-playing sessions and mentorships with faculty, and resident and faculty surveys are conducted for feedback and system change.
RESULTS: Three months after initiation of this novel web based method, resident attendance and participation had significantly increased. Further assessment of this approach using confidence scales and ability to implement Milestones successfully will be performed with results to follow.
CONCLUSIONS: Web-based interactive Milestones can curtail the challenges faced by time constraints and varying resident schedules. It can clearly define educational and clinical goals that residents can use as a framework to develop into independent physicians.
