To collect data regarding electronic communication practices and attitudes of patients and healthcare providers in the neurosciences to optimize communication in the healthcare setting.

In order to assess the behaviors and opinions of clinicians and patients in regard to electronic communication, separate REDCap surveys were administered to all healthcare providers through email and patients through the EPIC scheduling system throughout the Neurosciences Departments at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts. Non-identifiable demographics and clinical variables were collected in the 5-7 minute long survey. Patients expectations and preferences of their clinician’s electronic communication etiquette will be compared with the healthcare providers employed practices.

This is the first survey of this type to examine the experiences and expectations of neurologists and patients regarding electronic communications in an academic medical center.
