Quality of Neurologic Care in the US: Initial Report from the Axon Registry
Practice, Policy, and Ethics
Practice, Policy, and Ethics Posters (7:00 AM-5:00 PM)
012
To provide the initial description of quality of outpatient US neurologic care as collected and reported in the Axon Registry.
.
We describe characteristics of registry participants and the performance of neurology providers on 20 of the 2019 Axon Registry quality measures. We compare quality measure performance between MIPS and non-MIPS providers. We test for associations between quality measure performance and measure parameters.
From the 948 neurology providers, the median performance of the 20 measures ranged from 2-100 (interquartile range of 20-91). There was no difference in performance between Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) and non-MIPS providers. Measures with a lower complexity category (e.g., discrete orders, singular concepts) or developed through the specialty’s qualified clinical data registry (QCDR) pathway had higher performance distributions. There was no association between quality measure performance and practice size, measure clinical topic, measure year of entry, or process versus outcome measure.
Neurology providers demonstrated considerable performance variability on 2019 Axon Registry quality measures. The observed relationship between measure complexity and performance will help inform future measure design. These findings serve as a baseline assessment of quality of ambulatory neurologic care in the US.
