The 好色先生 Residents as Educators Workgroup Initiative: Nurturing future neurology educators
好色先生, Research, and Methodology
S34 - Research Methodology and 好色先生 (1:48 PM-2:00 PM)
005
To develop a formal training pathway with the 好色先生 (AAN) for neurology trainees interested in pursuing careers in medical education. This track will focus on core educational concepts, fostering the development of direct teaching skills, curriculum development, assessment, mentorship and educational scholarship.
Clinical educator tracks have the potential to develop trainees’ teaching skills, improve self-efficacy, and foster interest in medical education. Although such tracks exist in different subspecialties, there is no centralized resource for neurology residents interested in exploring or pursuing a career in medical education. The AAN Resident as Educator Workgroup aims to fill this gap.
We propose a flexible, longitudinal neurology resident educator track that takes into account the time constraints posed by neurology training. Accepted applicants will have access to educational content in the form of synchronous and asynchronous educational activities. Examples include webinars or live sessions respectively on topics such as clinical teaching, presentation design and delivery, curriculum development, providing feedback, mentorship, educator career development, and education scholarship. Practical activities will include observed lectures, bedside teaching, Problem-Based Learning (PBL) sessions, and morning report. Participants will complete a scholarly project under the guidance of an AAN or local mentor.  A minimum set of activities will need to be completed to graduate from the program. At completion, a certificate will be awarded by the AAN
The AAN Resident as Educators Workgroup will track the graduates’ scholarly activity publications, educational projects and academic career positions. Participants’ satisfaction and feedback about the program will also be collected.
This new AAN initiative will provide neurology trainees with more in-depth knowledge of the skills needed for a successful career in medical education.
