200 total cases were studied. Of those 200 cases, 18 showed status epilepticus, 25 displayed paroxysmal activity, 135 showed bilateral slowing, 20 cases unilateral slowing, and the remaining 2 displayed muscle artifacts that obscured the EEG. Cases studied for longer than the 2 hour threshold displayed significant muscle and electrode artifacts that obscured the EEG and made it uninterpretable. Bilateral slowing was caused by metabolic or toxic factors in the patients surveyed. Unilateral slowing occurred as a result of stress or tumors in the body. Patients in these cases often had other health issues, such as drugs or renal problems, that contributed to the unilateral or bilateral slowing.
