To assess the influence of aligned online clinician (HCP) and patient-caregiver (P/C) education in addressing knowledge uptake and self-reporting of positive behaviors related to migraine management.

Migraine remains poorly understood, underdiagnosed, and undertreated in clinical practice. Its management has also changed tremendously, leaving P/Cs and HCPs in need of information on how to improve shared decision-making (SDM).

One 60-min CME activity and four 15-min modules for P/Cs were launched live-online 1/22/21 and will remain on-demand for 1 year. Test questions were administered pre-, immediate post-, and 2 months post-activity. Responses from learner polling and follow-up surveys were analyzed for engagement, lessons learned, and continuing gaps. McNemar tests compared paired responses (pre/post & pre/2 mos) with Cohen’s d for effect size.

As of 9/23/21, 537 HCPs and 906 P/Cs have engaged with the activities. All 7 knowledge and competence questions showed pre to post improvement (16% lift P/Cs and 36% lift HCPs). During follow-up surveys probing behavioral impact, ~86% of HCPs reported benefits on practice (n=250), with write-in examples related to initiation of calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) inhibitors for prevention and acute treatment and provision of patient education. ~87% of P/Cs reported confidence raising concerns with HCPs (up from 78% pre), 89% reported a preference for clinicians who use SDM (up from 80%), and 40% reported a positive impact on health-related behavior, with write-in examples related to trigger reduction and non-pharmacological interventions.

Post-test and participant surveys support the positive impact of live-online HCP and P/C education on knowledge of migraine and its management options. ºÃÉ«ÏÈÉúal activities such as these are expected to facilitate ongoing SDM and improve knowledge of the role of CGRP in migraine, efficacy and safety of new and emerging agents acting at CGRP pathways, and strategies to address adherence to treatment.
