Cognitive Neurology/Neurologic Disorders Presenting with Psychiatric Symptoms
Participants should be familiar with the variety of mechanisms and pathophysiologic events associated with brain injury, including blast injury associated with the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan, and how to treat and minimize secondary brain injury with up-to-date acute management procedures; learn about the neuropsychological聽 and functional consequences of brain injury and predictors of outcome after TBI; be familiar with how TBI affects cognitive functions associated with the frontal lobes and principles of rehabilitation techniques for improving functioning in these areas; and learn about neurochemical changes that occur after TBI and evidence supporting the use of pharmacologic agents to improve cognitive functioning after TBI.
