Practice, Policy, and Ethics
Neurologists and their staff nationwide are facing increasing administrative burdens due to prior authorization (PA) requirements. PA places significant burden on physician practices such that neurologists and their staff spend an average of almost two business days completing PA. Subsequently, it can take between two weeks to up to two months to receive authorization from a payer causing significant stress, potential abandonment of prescriptions and serious adverse events resulting in hospitalizations or rebound of disease activity in patients with neurological disease. In an interactive format through short presentations and discussions with audience members, Dr. Kavita V Nair, PhD, FAAN, Vice-Chair of the AAN's Coding and Payment Policy Subcommittee, Jose M. Rocha, MHL, business practice manager of the largest multidisciplinary neurology practice nationwide, and Dr. Raisa Villaneuva, MD.,MPH FAAN, Chief of the University of Rochester's Medical Center Headache Center and Associate Chair of Ambulatory Operations discuss solutions and strategies for easing the burden of PA. Attendees are encouraged to participate with their own questions and engage in real time with faculty to get the most out of this interactive session.
