Practice, Policy, and Ethics
Each member of the care team should be utilized in a meaningful way in order to improve patient access to care, clinical outcomes, and professional satisfaction. A collaborative mindset among physicians, advanced practice providers, and other members of the care team is needed to establish effective teamwork, to recognize the inherent value of the team model, and a commitment to building effective relationships. Participants should become familiar with the management of patients with deep brain stimulation devices for movement disorders in the hospital; management of DBS with diagnostic procedures, surgery, and other therapies; gain a better understanding of the importance of collaboration in the development, implementation, and dissemimation of an acute seizure action plan (ASAP); and gain awareness of the importance of innovative collaboration efforts and use of an ASAP to increase patient knowledge and comfort in managing seizure emergencies.
