Participants should become familiar with basic indications for various medication classes used in acute and chronic nociceptive and neuropathic pain; gain understanding of how genetic polymorphism may affect metabolism and consequently safe use and dosing of pain medications; and learn practical and specific useful information regarding drug interactions, physiologic monitoring and surveillance, and use of alternative routes of administration for more sophisticated pharmacological management of pain.
