Participants should be able to apply recent evidence on use of statins, ACE inhibitors, ARBs, and other antihypertensive agents to reduce stroke risk; discuss recent trials of carotid surgery and stenting and provide a rationale for interventional treatment of intracranial stenosis; choose appropriately among the different antithrombotic agents for stroke prevention, including aspirin, clopidogrel, dipyridamole, and warfarin; and decide between medical and surgical management in individual patients with patent foramen ovale.
