What does AAN membership mean to trainees from around the globe?
While the July 1 start date of the academic year membership cycle corresponds with training dates in the US, approximately 33% of AAN student, intern, and junior members reside outside of the US. The AAN is committed to supporting career advancement in the field of neurology, both locally and abroad, by connecting the brightest minds with the best resources. One way the AAN does this is through the International Scholarship, which brings together early career neurologists and trainees from around the world to attend the AAN Annual Meeting. Select 2025 scholars shared how they have relied on the AAN throughout their training or leveraged the Academy’s programs and events to strengthen their careers.
“The AAN has been instrumental in my training and career development. The wide range of educational resources—particularly the Continuum® journal—has helped me deepen my understanding of complex neurological topics. Additionally, being part of the AAN community has connected me with mentors and peers, fostering a strong sense of belonging within the field of neurology. These resources and connections have significantly enriched my residency experience and helped shape my career path.”
— Anabella Francés, MD | Argentina
“I regularly read the journal Neurology®, which is the official journal of the AAN. Many articles in Neurology® have inspired my research aims and vision. I had an opportunity to present my latest research at the [Annual Meeting] and received great feedback. Moreover, a couple of journalists, including at Medscape, attended my talk and wrote articles about the work I presented at the sleep session.”
