Ready for a dedicated two-day program on autoimmune neurology? Save the date for the 2026 AAN Autoimmune Neurology Conference, taking place August 7–8 in Houston and online.

Building on the success of prior AAN Summer Conferences, which featured rotating topics, the 2026 conference will adopt a new, more direct title: the “AAN Autoimmune Neurology Conference.” This change reflects the growing significance and prevalence of autoimmune neurology as an emerging field within neurology and marks the third occasion that the AAN will host a conference focused specifically on this topic.

Stacey Clardy, MD, PhD, FAAN, who chairs the AAN’s Autoimmune Neurology Section, said this conference is special for many reasons.

“The meeting itself is a manageable size, allowing early career autoimmune neurologists the opportunity to meet and network,” Clardy said. “The educational sessions are thoughtfully focused on providing the highest caliber education in the field, delivered by engaging experts. And we always build in fun, with cases over dinner—and this year, we’ve added debates on controversial topics as well.”

Program highlights

This event will showcase recent advancements in diagnostic standards, therapeutic approaches, and current research, while also providing numerous opportunities for networking and professional collaboration.

“Attendees can expect practical courses for all levels of knowledge and experience that will cover autoimmune neurological disorders affecting all levels of the nervous system,” said Anastasia Zekeridou, MD, PhD, FAAN, vice chair of the Autoimmune Neurology Section. “They can also expect a highly engaging environment with colleagues and experts in the field to discuss clinical cases and latest developments in clinical, translational, and basic research on autoimmune neurology.”

Upon completion, participants should be able to:

  • Recognize and diagnose neurological autoimmunity affecting any part of the neuraxis
  • Interpret diagnostic testing for neurological autoimmunity
  • Avoid neurological autoimmunity misdiagnosis and recognize the pitfalls
  • Manage and treat neurological autoimmune disorders, including inflammatory disorders of the central and peripheral nervous systems and muscle

The AAN will start accepting abstract submissions for the conference in March.

“This meeting gathers everyone in autoimmune neurology, from trainees to international leaders,” said Eoin P. Flanagan, MBBCh, FAAN, a member of the Neurology® Neuroimmunology & Neuroinflammation Editorial Board. “Presenting an abstract allows you to showcase your work to a highly engaged audience and make meaningful connections, whether you’re early in your career or an established investigator.”

This is an excellent chance to gather with other professionals who are passionate about autoimmune neurology, learn from each other, and collaborate. It’s suitable for established neurologists and neuroscience professionals, trainees, and medical students interested in autoimmune neurology—everyone dedicated to this fast-developing topic.
