What to expect from the 2026 AAN Annual Meeting

January 8, 2026

If you’re looking for practice improvement strategies, the latest scientific research, critical education, and networking with your neurology community from around the globe, then there’s no better place to set your sights than the AAN Annual Meeting. Chicago will be welcoming the best and brightest in neurology this April 18–22.

Not only will the “Windy City” provide a beautiful spring backdrop to the meeting, but with its central US location, it’s a convenient destination, too. And, once again, there will be a robust online option so you can conveniently attend from anywhere.

Record scientific presentations

The Annual Meeting is always the place where the world of neurology comes together for the latest and greatest neuroscience research presentations. With a record number of submitted abstracts, 2026 is no exception.

“We blew submissions out of the water this year,” said AAN Meeting Management Committee Vice Chair Hope O'Brien, MD, MBA, FAAN. “More than 3,500 abstracts will be presented, which means this meeting will feature some of the most comprehensive scientific updates ever! We’re really excited for attendees to experience this breadth of research—especially now when so many research opportunities are being compromised.”

Esteemed lineup of Presidential Plenary speakers

The Presidential Plenary session will focus on brain health and convey expert research in areas such as ALS, Parkinson’s disease, and childhood muscle diseases, with the following lectures already announced. Plus, look for five more plenary sessions yet to be announced!

  • George C. Cotzias Lecture—Jeffrey D. Rothstein, MD, PhD
  • Sidney Carter Award in Child Neurology—James Dowling, MD, PhD
  • AAN Lifetime Achievement Award for Clinically Relevant Research—Anthony E. Lang, MD, FAAN

“The Annual Meeting truly is the singular place where the very best in all of neurology comes together. In 2026, we’re promising five days of unparalleled learning, meaningful networking, and engaging experiences for neurology professionals at every stage of their careers,” O’Brien said. “This year's theme emphasizes connection—coming together to share knowledge, learn from one another, and grow as a community. There is no global neurology gathering quite like this, and I look forward to welcoming colleagues from around the world!”
