Disease Modifying Therapies Monitoring for Patients with MS

Measure Purpose: Identify patients with side effects and patients who are not adhereing to treatment
The numerator: Patients who were screened on date of encounter for:
- DMT side effects, and
- compliance/adherence with DMT
is divided by
The denominator: Patients with a diagnosis of MS who were prescribed a new DMT during the measurement period
Exclusions are removed from the denominator for:
- Patient had a new DMT initiated on date of encounter
- Patient declines a discussion on date of encounter

Measure Calculation Example
Dr. Wood had 100 patients with MS between January 1 and December 31. Five patients started a new DMT on the date of the encounter. The denominator is 95 (100-5).
Of the 95 patients, 30 were screened for DMT side effects and compliance with their DMT treatment. This is the numerator. Additionally, five patients declined a discussion on the date of the encounter. These five patients are removed from the denominator.
Quality of care = 30/(100-5-5). Dr. Wood has a score of 33% for this measure.
