This award recognizes a general neurologist for exemplary service to the community, clinical performance, and innovation in their practice or other health care endeavors.

Benefits
The winner will receive a $1,000 prize, an honorary plaque, and recognition at the Annual Meeting and in AAN member publications.
Eligibility
The applicant or nominee must attest that they meet the AAN definition of a “general neurologist,” which is a neurologist who is comfortable evaluating and treating patients among the broad spectrum of neurologic diseases and does not restrict their practice to a particular subspecialty.
Preference will be given to applicants who have not won an AAN award in the past five years.
Application process
Whether self-nominating or nominating someone else, each application should include:
- The completed application form, which includes three short-answer questions related to the applicant's service to the community, clinical care, and innovation
- A current curriculum vitae
Evaluation considerations
A neurologist deserving of this award engages in community service and provides clinical care above and beyond what is expected under their scope of practice. The winner will be able to demonstrate excellence in all three areas below.
Community service may include:
- Unpaid volunteer work
- Providing medical education that is not directly related to typical job expectations
- Mentorship
- Advocacy
Clinical performance may include:
- Diagnostic complexity
- Breadth of practice
- Participating in activities to further education
- Being highly regarded by patients and colleagues
Innovation may include:
- Incorporating new practices or technologies that improve patient care (quality, health outcomes, access, etc.) or improve physician efficiency or wellness
- Conducting research that impacts the field of neurology
- Developing practice models that positively challenge the status quo
High-quality applications will be able to quantify their contributions to the field as much as possible.
