AAN Committees
The Member Engagement Committee provides strategic direction on overall membership policies, recruitment, and retention strategies, as well as advises the Academy on the optimal member experience as it relates to communications and digital strategies.

Job description
Responsibilities
- Develop bylaws, policies, and membership structures for the Academy’s membership program across all member types.
- Steer the vision for its subcommittees’ work and ensure a comprehensive approach to the member experience.
- Determine strategies for member engagement, segmentation, recruitment, and retention.
- Guide the Academy on communications, public relations, and marketing strategies impacting overall membership experience.
- Serve as an advisory board on the Academy’s overall digital strategy, including website redesigns, mobile web, native mobile application development, and social media.
- Advise the Academy on solutions for creating a seamless digital member experience across all platforms and delivering the right digital content in the right context at the right time.
- Oversee the AAN history and archives initiatives.
- Collaborate with AAN committees to align in executing the board’s strategic plan.
- Define strategies for AAN Sections, including measurable goals for section engagement.
- Lead section-related activities at the AAN Annual Meeting.
- Address key section issues, including but not limited to policy changes, priority section-wide initiatives, contentious issues.
- Review and contribute to the development of the Insights Report or other reports as needed.
- Review and contribute to the development of key AAN surveys and research projects.
Meeting schedule
- Attend two meetings each year:
- Winter meeting at location TBD (1.5 days)
- Late July/August meeting at the AAN headquarters in Minneapolis (1.5 days)
- Participate in conference calls and email votes on a quarterly basis or as relevant issues arise throughout the year.
Estimated time commitment
Two hours per month plus meetings.
