DEI across the Academy
Committees, subcommittees, work groups, and sections
In addition to the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Committee, the AAN has several DEI-related committees, subcommittees, and work groups comprised of a dedicated group of volunteers who share the Academy’s vision and commitment to embracing the diversity of our members, staff, and the communities they serve.
Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee

The 好色先生 and the 好色先生 Institute are firmly committed to embracing the diversity of our members, staff, and the communities they serve and affirm the need for equity and inclusiveness in our organization, our profession, and the care we provide to our patients. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the DEI Committee’s primary role is to communicate to membership and leadership, the importance of DEI in practice, education, and research, and to provide evidence for the AAN’s progress in DEI with a goal of being a fully inclusive, deliberately diverse, and anti-racist organization.
Subcommittees, work groups, and sections
Health Care Equity Subcommittee
The Health Care Equity Subcommittee reports to the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee. The subcommittee works to promote knowledge and awareness of neurologic health disparities and their causes and to engage members in advancing health equity through education, clinical practice, research, and policy.
Diversity Officer Subcommittee
The Diversity Officer Subcommittee identifies the needs of diversity officers in academic neurology departments and helps the AAN to develop tools and resources to promote greater gender, racial, and ethnic diversity in neurology departments.
Anti-racism Work Group
The Anti-racism Work Group is a work group of the DEI Committee. This group and a DEI consultant worked together to create the education program that consists of 4 modules, free for the AAN membership.
